They run smooth and quiet. The massive fasteners used for swinging the head to adjust the belt are way overkill for the job.

They are rigid for their size and weight. Those mills were made with at least four different spindles, R8, B&S 9, NMTB30, and others. There were also a lot of other options. A three phase motor would be good to control spindle speed with (edit: by using a VFD), giving a wider range of infinitely adjusted speeds.

Powermatic Burke Millrite Model MVN S#79722 It's in very good to excellent condition with original paint and scraping still visible on the ways. The quill is manual feed only and has 4 inches of travel. Lubrication is grease by zerks. The table has no holes or cuts. One small chip can be seen in the lower right corner in a photo.
The table was 36" long, and 8" wide, with a travel of 25" on the x-axis and about 10 inches on the Y-axis (with my big ass vise in it). The machine came with a 3 HP inverter to change the 220 single phase to three phase and the guy wanted $1500 for it. The only catch to the ad was that the millrite was located in his basement.

Well, actually its a Burke, and must be why Powermatic put their name on it! That Millrite is probably one of the finest undersized Bports ever built. Cut my teeth on one many, many years ago. I seem to recall we actually ran a spindle oil on those models. Been too many years. Hopefully yours is R-8 as the B/S 9 was very common

I have a 1983 Powermatic/Burke Millrite with the long knee option (about 14" of Y travel), varispeed, 1HP motor, R-8 spindle, with the 8x36 table, and 24"x14" travel. The leadscrews are in good shape with low backlash, all the scrape marks are still visible on the ways and knee, and the spindle is quiet and cool running.
