Re: Miller BIG 40 wont weld. I just finished doing what Duane said to the Airco version of the Big 40, the call it a Super Hornet 300. It had dirty slip rings and needed flashed. Another issue was in the past a " rocket scientist " had added wiring and adjusted the wiper location on the big tube resistors.
10-14-2012, 11:23 PM. I pulled the distributor it out of my 1970 Miller big 40 with a Continental F 163 motor in it. I installed the new distributor, but now when cranking over the motor the rotor isn't spinning. It spins for a slight second then stops or if I pulled the distributor out slightly it will spin properly.

You might want to check the adjustment of your idler solenoid before you get to far into messing with the hall device.
